Helping you find a midwife in Connecticut

Cynthia Bean

I am a midwife attending homebirths in Connecticut as well as Central Massachusetts.

My passion is to help mothers realize that they are the authors and the owners of their births.  Women and babies are wonderfully created for birth and they carry the wisdom within them to find their own way through the process, and every journey is as unique as the mother and baby themselves.

It seems to be the best kept secret in our modern culture that pregnancy and childbirth are normal life processes. My goal as a midwife is to empower women to trust in their bodies, and take charge of their health for themselves and their families. To this end, I provide mothers and families with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, often taking place in mothers' own homes. I also provide as much continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery as each family needs. Mothers and babies know how to birth, and I respect their autonomy and minimize interventions that may undermine the process. I provide postpartum support, including a complete physical exam for the baby, monitoring of mothers' physical and emotional health, and additional resources as needed during the adjustment period after birth.

I have three children of my own.  My daughter was born naturally in a hospital and my two sons were born at home.  I have been attending births for 2 1/2 years and am a graduate of the Womancraft Midwifery Education Program based in Amherst, MA.
